New Sewickley Twp. Beaver County – At least, one person was dead and another was hospitalized following a deadly along New Sewickley Township. The incident occurred at about 6 :00 o’clock in the morning on Freedom Crider Road.
Police reported that a woman was traveling east on the road, when a male operated veered west crossing the center median and collided head on with her car.
Due to the impact, the female driver died at the scene while the male was delivered to UPMC Presby in unknown condition. Traffic officials decided to close Freedom Crider Road between Rte. 989 and Lovi Road after the crash.
Emergency dispatchers responded to a call that a single person died following a two-car collision at approximately 6:35 early Saturday morning along Freedom Crider Road in New Sewickley, Beaver County.
Only one person was believed to have been injured in the accident that dispatchers had airlifted to Pittsburgh UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. The roads at Freedom Crider, Woodcroft and Park Hill roads were shut for traffic while emergency crews investigated the accident.
A staff of the coroner’s office of Beaver County was dispatched at the accident scene to look after one fatality.
Police identified Mary Jane Hyre, age 62 and resident of Aliquippa as the woman who died that Saturday morning accident along Freedom Crider Road and just over the Butler County line.
According to Ronald Leindecker, New Sewickley Police Chief, Hyre was driving east early Monday morning when she collided with a vehicle operated by John Thomas Mayo whose vehicle swerved over the median line and hit Hyre’s car.
Mayo is still confined at the Pittsburgh-area hospital while state police continue their investigation of the accident.
Mary Jane Hyre who is in her early 60’s and a resident of Aliquippa was driving along the Freedom Crider Road early Saturday morning when her car collided with the vehicle driven by John Thomas Mayo who went across the center line,It was not clear why Mayo lost control of his vehicle.
Hyre sustained life-threatening injuries that cause her death while Mayo was injured and sent to a hospital in Pittsburgh.
State Sen. Rep of the 47th District, Elder Vogel Jr. and state Rep. of the 14th District are planning to update the safety of Freedom Road with the assistance of PennDOT District 11 executive Dan Cessna by initiating a new Freedom Road Project.
Vogel stated that the project aims to straighten and widen dangerous curvy road that have been the cause of several deadly accidents over the years. Marshall stressed that the project will improve public safety. Both believed that it would also enhance economic development of the area. However, they would not be changing the predominately rural and residential nature of the road covered by the improvements.
Cessna announced that construction begins in spring 2016 and be completed in 2020.
