One young life was claimed in a car collision today. A young man of 22 years was the victim of a collision at the Rancho Penasquitos while the young man was on his way home after attending a family funeral.

According to the CHP and the county Medical Examiner’s Office, the fatality was identified as Nick Hart resident of San Diego who was traveling west at State Route 56. At about 9:40 o’clock Thursday morning, Hart was driving his Toyota 2010 Scion when he crashed heads- on with an eastbound Ranger 2002 SUV Rover that veered across the median center near Black Mountain Road

A 2009 graduate of Poway High School, Hart was employed in Scripps Ranch’s Trader Joe’s market. He died in the scene at the wreckage of his car.

Officer Jake Sanchez of the CHP State affair said that the operator of the other vehicle, identified as Timothy Barnette, age 18 and resident of San Diego was transported by medics to the trauma center of La Jolla for he sustained severe injuries. He remained hospitalized as of this report.

Authorities had the suspicion that drugs played an important factor in the crash as Barnette must have been under the influence of some type of medication at the time of the crash. If the result of drug test is positive, he  will be filed with criminal charges.

Hart was coming home after attending a relative’s memorial service at the time of his death. The funeral service for this 22-year-old college student will be on Tuesday.

Hart’s friends remembered how Hart loved rock climbing, playing the guitar and surfing. He was trying to decide what to major in at Cal State San Marcos. He was an enjoyable and amusing friend; there was never a dull moment as he will full of life and energy.

Last Tuesday, all his co-workers in Trader Joe’s attended his funeral. They said that they will always remember him as energetic in doing his task and encouraging others to do the same.

Jason Hamrick, co-worker, said that Nick was a good team player and was such an amazing person. It is sad that he died in such a terrible way. He will always be remembered as a smiling fellow; spreading happiness to every person he comes in contact with.

His friend Xavier Karan said that he will be greatly missed. With his happy disposition, he would lift you up when you feel down. He was one in a million.

Meanwhile, Barnette was also hospitalized after the crash, but he is expected to be released from the hospital in a few days. A family friend believed that the young man may have been using some kind of inhalant before the collision.

According to CHP they will be filing criminal charges against Barnette, pending positive results of a toxicology exam.
