Authorities identified the driver as Anthony K. Andrews, age 30 and resident of Sorrento. He lost control while going into a curve and left the road. A child, identified as Makell Andrews died; he was a not properly restrained and was partly ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Louisiana State Troopers reported that Andrews was not able to negotiate a left hand curve so he lost control of the vehicle as it veered towards the right. It left the roadway while the driver attempted to steer the vehicle back to the road; so it rolled off.

Due to the mishap, LA 44 between LA 22 and LA 941 was closed for traffic but was reopened at around 9:45 o’clock in the morning.

The police believed that driver impairment was not the reason for the accident but a toxicology sample was submitted to the LSP crime Lab for analysis.

Residents living along LA 44 have been complaining to traffic officials to do something about the increasing number of accidents happening around the area.

One neighbor said this is the wreck was the  seventh crash on that roadway in just a few weeks.

Neighbors stated that the very least remedy would be to install rumble strips to warn drivers to slow down and pay attention as they reach the curve.
