An early morning wreck is being investigated by the  New Orleans Police Department that caused the death of one man and left another in critical condition. The accident took place in the eastern side of New Orleans last Thursday. According to the spokesperson of the police, the mishap happened a little before 6:00 o’clock in the morning at Block 11700 of Chef Mentuer just at the entrance of the National Wildlife Refuge of Bayou Savage.

It was a four-vehicle accident involving a Lumina Chevrolet, Silverado Chevrolet, Blazer Chevrolet and a Maxima Nissan.

According the police, a 23-year-old male driver was traveling west in a white Lumina Chevrolet along the left lane of Chef Menteur Highway. He was about to negotiate a left turn when for unknown reasons, he was hit by a tan Silverado Chevrolet.

The impact pushed the Lumina towards the lanes going west where the vehicle was again crashed by a green Blazer Chevrolet.

The fourth car was a Maxima Nissan that was traveling at the back of the Blazer. The operator of the Nissan clever to worm  his way around the vehicles wreck causing very little damage to his car and himself.

The 23-year old driver of the white Lumina which received the brunt of the collision died in the scene. The operator of the green Blazer was transported to the area hospital sustaining critical injuries, although after 9:00 o’clock that morning, his condition was upgraded as stable.

Prior to the release of the fatality’s Id, the police have to notify his nearest relative.

Due to the crash, all lanes were blocked in both directions for nearly three hours. Traffic was diverted to highway 11. But at around 8:45 o’clock in the morning, all lanes were reopened.

The results of the toxicology test will determine if alcohol or drugs played a significant factor in the crash.
